About
A safe work culture is a safe patient-care culture.
HIPS exists so every hospital can see its worker injury rates clearly, compare them fairly, and put limited prevention money where it does the most good.
Where the method comes from
From 2012 to 2014, a voluntary national surveillance network collected standardized injury data from 112 U.S. healthcare facilities. Its findings, published by CDC in 2015 (MMWR 64(15):405–410), showed that nurse assistants and nurses carried the highest injury rates, and that most patient handling injuries happened without lifting equipment.
That network was later shelved. HIPS rebuilds its data standard and benchmarking method as modern software, adds voice reporting and a mobile app, and keeps identifiable data inside each hospital.
HIPS is an independent product. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by CDC or NIOSH.
The team
HIPS is led by a technology executive with 35 years in healthcare software, working with the physician-researcher who designed the original network's approach. Full team bios are coming soon.
